Simple Porridge Recipe

1/2 cup oats
1 cup water
optional – add sunflower seeds, raisins, sultanas, dried fruit, bran, honey

You can soak the oats in water in a bowl or pan overnight to make the fibre more digestable.

In the morning, either:

  • Cook in a pan on a lowish heat for a few minutes. If you use a good non-stick pan, you’ll not need to stir it too much and can get on with your morning routine at the same time. Or:

  • Microwave! Use the second the highest setting (i.e. not the highest) to prevent it over-boiling. Usually about two minutes does the trick, watch it closely for the first couple of times until you’ve worked out exactly how long it takes. Serve with cold milk / milk alternative and/or brown sugar / honey.
